Marine police training

Past Event

A sail from Chennai to Puducherry was organized to heighten the spirits of the team. The journey takes a little over 2 hours by road but it took nearly 13 hours by sea since the sailors had to depend on the wind to set their course. One of the participants, Chidambaram, recalls how the winds were in their favor as they headed toward Puducherry in their J80 sailboats. The expedition was a practice run for the national-level offshore regatta to be held on the same stretch in March. The participants who joined the expedition urged more children to come forward and take up sailing as there is no age limit to determine when to start.

Captain

"Thirteen hours may seem long, but it is the fastest in the history of the 110-year-old Royal Madras Yacht Club", - Captain Vivek Shanbag, the expedition leader.

The Royal Madras Yacht Club is using j80 eco-friendly sailing boats to train twenty Coastal Security Group (CSG) personnel of the state. At the end of the course, the best of the trainees will get a chance to participate in the sailing expedition from Chennai to Kanyakumari. Captain Vivek Shanbhag, a former airline pilot with more than 21,000 flying hours, will be one of the trainers along with Chinna Reddy and Abhimanyu Panwar. The training was inaugurated by DGP Sylendra Babu who encouraged the marine cops to take up training more seriously and acquire new skills.
